OUR CHRISTIAN ETHOS

Recognising our historic foundation, we will preserve and develop our religious character in accordance with the principles of the Church of England and in partnership with the Churches at parish and diocesan level.

Woodstock CE Primary School strives to be an inclusive community where children grow, learn and achieve together. Children’s natural curiosity is fostered through a creative curriculum that excites and challenges, and enables them to be successful learners. Admissions Arrangements

Children are admitted into school in accordance with Oxfordshire County Council admissions arrangements which are published on the County Council website here. You can find further information about our admissions here.

Attendance & Opening Hours

There is a clear link between pupils’ achievement and their level of attendance at school. The governors and staff, alongside the LA, firmly believe that all pupils benefit from regular attendance. We want all pupils to achieve the very best they can and for this they need to be in school regularly.

To this end we will do all we can to encourage parents/carers to ensure that the children in their care achieve maximum possible attendance and that any problems that prevent full attendance are identified and acted on promptly.
The School will provide the attendance record of each child at parent consultation meetings during the year and provide a Certification of Registration for the school academic year with each child’s annual report. The School will also reward pupils with outstanding records.

Behaviour Policy

Our Behaviour Policy is the statement of principles, aims and strategies for promoting positive behaviour at Woodstock CE Primary School. We believe a shared commitment from parents, governors and the wider community is an important factor in promoting good behaviour and the fostering of positive attitudes. As a school we ensure that parents and carers are fully informed of our approach to behaviour management by communicating it through the School Prospectus, Home-School Agreement, newsletters and the School’s website.

Charging & Remissions Policy

Woodstock CE Primary School believes that all our pupils should have an equal opportunity to benefit from school activities and visits (curricular and extra curricular) independent of their parents’ financial means. This charging and remissions policy describes how we will do our best to ensure a good range of visits and activities is offered and, at the same time, try to minimise the financial barriers which may prevent some pupils taking full advantage of the opportunities.

Collective Worship

Legal Requirements

The Education Reform Act 1988 requires that all schools have a daily act of worship, either together as a whole school or in smaller groups. As a Christian Foundation we follow the traditions and values of the Church of England. In a multi-faith society we aim to encourage the children’s understanding and respect for other faiths. Worship will be distinctively Christian in character, whilst acknowledging religious and cultural diversity existing in society and the wide beliefs of the local community.

Complaints Procedure

It is in everyone’s interest that complaints are resolved at the earliest possible stage. Many issues can be resolved informally, without the need to invoke formal procedures. As a school we take informal concerns seriously and make every effort to resolve the matter as quickly as possible.

There are occasions when complainants would like to raise their concerns formally. In these cases, the school’s formal procedure should be invoked.

Governors' Information and Duties

As a school we are very proud of our governors who take their duties very seriously and give up their time in the interests of the whole-school community. They make an important contribution to raising standards and maintain high aspiration.

Equality Page

OFSTED & SIAMS Reports

OFSTED is the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills. They report directly to Parliament and are responsible for inspecting and regulating schools, pre-schools, nurseries, and any services caring for children and young people, as well as those providing education and skills for learners of all ages. SIAMS inspection focuses on the impact of the Church school's Christian vision on pupils and adults. This involves looking at the school’s Christian vision, the provision the school makes because of this vision and how effective this provision is in enabling all pupils to flourish. Church schools will employ a variety of strategies and styles appropriate to, and reflective of, their particular context in order to be distinctively and effectively Christian in their character and ethos. SIAMS inspectors therefore do not look for a set template of what a Church school should be like, but rather take the particular context of the school into account and base their evaluation on the outcomes rather than the process. PE & Sports Premium

PE & Sport Premium is funding provided to primary schools to enhance the provision of PE and sport. The Government has committed to keeping the funding in place until 2020. It is for schools to decide how the PE and Sport funding is spent.

Pupil Premium

The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their wealthier peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.

Reading & Phonics

At Woodstock CE Primary School we use the synthetics phonics programme ‘Read, Write Inc.’. Children begin phonics on day one in our Nursery and Reception Classes and are taught daily in small groups. Alongside the groups, teachers will refer to the RWInc programme throughout the day, for example referring to a speed sound or green or red word at any given time. Safeguarding & Child Protection Policy

The Governing Body of Woodstock CE Primary School takes its responsibility under section 11 of the Children Act and duties under “working together” to safeguard and promote the welfare of children very seriously. We work together with other agencies to ensure adequate arrangements exist within our setting to identify, and support those children who are suffering harm or are likely to suffer harm. Special Educational Needs (SEN) & Disability Information

Children with SEN all have learning difficulties or disabilities that make it harder for them to learn than most children of the same age. These children may need extra or different help from that given to others.
