The Big Bird Watch 2022
Over the last few weeks the children have been helping to look after the birds in the woods. We began by reading the story 'Robin's Winter Song' and discussed the seasons changing from Autumn, to Winter and then to Spring. The older children helped to repair bird boxes and then think about the most appropriate place to position them in the trees. Each phase made a different type of bird feeder. Nursery had a tricky job of sorting hoops and counting two lots of 10 to add to their pipe cleaner, the Reception children spread lard onto their tube before rolling it in bird feed and the KS1 children got very sticky mixing a variety of ingredients together before spreading it onto pine cones or into yoghurt pots.
In addition to making bird feeders, the children loved spotting different birds in the woods, going on a bird number hunt and creating bird collages using natural materials.
