City of Spires - Year 3/4 Launch Day
During our Launch Day, earlier in the term, children learnt more about The Inklings and participated in fieldwork to support our topic focus.
The walking tour, delivered by The Story Museum, gave children the chance to see the inspiration behind ‘The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe’ and ‘Alice in Wonderland’.
During the day, children also conducted a survey to find out what brought people to our City. The findings of this activity will be analysed, and children will use them as a basis to ascertain reasons behind Oxford’s attraction. To expand children’s understanding of physical geography we walked by the flood plains, up to the River Thames and spoke about the ford on the river being one of the key factors for the establishment of the Anglo Saxon settlement which was to develop into the City of Oxford and how this relates to the naming of our city.
